What the colorize app does
It guesses likely colors for skin, sky, clothes, and foliage. Those colors are not the original colors. A monochrome file has no hue left to recover. Treat the result as a plausible look, not a historical record.

When not to use it
Do not use colorize as evidence of what a scene really looked like. If the print is also scratched, run the photo repair app first so damage is not painted over as color.
